Third up in the interview series with the ELIA Board of Directors, is Tony D’Angelo. In this series, we’ll get to know the personal and professional journeys of our new 2025 Board Members who started their term at ELIA Networking Days in Budapest. We’ll explore their roles within their companies, and learn more about how they contribute to their ELIA committees.
Tony D’Angelo, Business Development Manager at CMT, is joining the ELIA Board as Director. Tony’s journey is rooted in connection, care, and community. Since helping customers in his family’s shoe shop, he’s always been driven to make people feel valued and supported—qualities that now both define his role on the ELIA Board of Directors.
What was the most unexpected job or role you’ve had before joining the language services industry, and how did it shape your career?
My family had a shoe shop, so it wasn’t really my first job, but I was happy to help people try on shoes in my parents’ first store when I was six. At that time, the customers were children aged 0 to 14. As a family, we stayed in the shoe business until my mid-thirties, so I can say that being in contact with people and trying to make them happy and satisfied has always been a “thing” for me.
If your company were a person, what kind of personality would it have and why?
If CMT were a person, it would have the personality of “You’ve Got a Friend in Me.” Always there, ready to help, honest, and quick to respond. We keep a boutique spirit even when working with big clients, because relationships built on trust and care never go out of style.
How does your ELIA committee enhance the member experience? What value and benefits do members gain from this?
The ELIA AI Committee was created to make AI accessible, practical, and relevant for everyone in our association. We want members to move from curiosity to confidence—whether they’re just starting or already experimenting with tools and workflows. And for those who feel overwhelmed by the constant stream of AI news, we help make sense of it all, so they can focus on what’s truly useful for them and their business. Through newsletters, webinars, and shared experiences, we turn noise into knowledge. It’s not about hype; it’s about learning together and growing as a community.
Networking Days 2025 marked the first event gathering our new Board. Do you have any special memories or particular moments from the event you would like to share?
It was a seven-hour board meeting that just flew by—I didn’t even realize how much time had passed. At a few moments, I tried to step back and look at what was happening, and it really hit me: how deeply everyone around that table cares about our association, our members’ success, and creating events that truly bring value to people. You can feel that passion in different ways across all four ELIA events, and it’s what makes being part of this team so special.

Once again, welcome to the Board, Tony.
