Welcome back to our final feature in our interview series with the ELIA Board of Directors! In this series, we’ll get to know the personal and professional journeys of our board members, explore their roles within their companies, and learn more about how they contribute to their ELIA committees.
Our next feature is Milena Spelta Parenti, Associate Founder & Senior Key Account Manager at Dema Solutions srl, who will be starting her term on the Board of Directors next week at ELIA Networking Days in Berlin. Milena’s journey is shaped by mindfulness, commitment, and a love for growth—both personally and in nurturing others—making her a perfect fit for the ELIA Board of Directors.
Can you tell us the story of your career journey using five emojis, and explain how each one represents a key moment or aspect of your professional life?
These are the cornerstones of my personal and professional path 🧘🧗👷🧳🧑🌾
🧘 Meditation: it enhances focus and reduces stress, improving overall productivity and decision-making in the workplace.
🧗 Mountain hiking: it taught me that, one step after the other, you will get to the top, no matter how challenging it seems from the valley.
👷 Commitment: I try to work thoroughly in everything I tackle, approaching each task with dedication and attention to detail. It’s like building a house.
🧳 Travelling: exploring different cultures and languages lets me gain a deeper appreciation for linguistic and cultural differences.
🧑🌾 “Be like a Gardener”: as my grandma used to say. Always grow your skills but, most important, grow your people. They will blossom.
If your company were a person, what kind of personality would it have and why?
If our company were a person, it would be a multifaceted yet harmonious puzzle. It’d be like there’s an Italian, a Serb, a Catalan, and a Filipino walking into a bar. The Italian brings the espresso-fuelled passion, the Serb the unyielding determination, the Spaniard the creative flair, and the Filipino the warm hospitality – together, they make the perfect blend of innovation and precision, with just the right amount of fiesta!
Tell us about the ELIA committee or initiative you lead. What’s its main goal and why is it important for the industry?
I had the honour and pleasure of being invited to collaborate with ELIA Exchange last year, from outside the Board.
The goal of the ELIA Exchange committee is to create a strong partnership between the university and the language industry, promoting the exchange of knowledge, research, and practical expertise. This collaboration is vital as it helps improve language services, ensures students gain the skills needed for the job market, and supports new ideas and solutions. By working together, we can better meet the needs of both the industry and academia, ultimately contributing to the growth and advancement of the language sector.
