Our next interview is with Elena Finco from Finking s.r.l. Elena shares what makes her company unique, her thoughts on the challenges of the language industry, and their office theme song!
1. Please can you share three interesting facts about your company?
1. Our company is 75% ‘pink’ and we can proudly state that our founder and owner is a woman. #Finkingpink is better!
2. We have a mascot, Gimpo, a little dog who is with us every day in the office!
3. Our office is located in a shop overlooking a busy street, so on market days we have many people nosing inside.
2. What aspect of your company do you believe sets it apart from others in the industry?
As well as founder and owner, I am also an interpreter and translator, which allows us to really understand the needs of the industry directly in the field and promote continuous improvement in our company.
3. What is something about your role that people might be surprised to learn?
Even if the language industry professionals are mostly women, a woman at the helm of a company struggles more to be heard.
4. If your job had a theme song, what would it be and why?
A Spoonful of Sugar from Mary Poppins! In our office, we have a wall sticker which says in every job that must be done there is an element of fun!
5. If you could choose anyone as your mentor, who would it be and why?
It would be Fernanda Pivano, an iconic woman and precursor of her time, who throughout her professional life contributed to the diffusion of the most significant American writers in Italy, from the great icons of the Roaring Twenties to young contemporary writers, by translating their books.
6. If you could change one thing about the language industry today, what would it be?
If I could change one thing about the language industry today, it would be to increase the accessibility and affordability of high-quality language education and translation services.
